Week of Prayer & Fasting

Monday 12th January 2015 to Sunday 18th January 2015

1, 3, 5 or 7 days
Location: Tab Centre

Happy New Year. This is fasting information relating to our upcoming fast from Monday, 12th January 2015 – Sunday, 18th January 2015 and we will meet to pray together on Friday 16th at 7:30pm. Fasting is a great way to draw near to God, remember if we draw near to him, he will draw near to us!!! It is also a good time to deal with issues in our lives that take us of course in our relationship with God.

You can choose how long you will fast for. This is between you and God and He will honor your best sacrifice.

  • 1 day – Monday – 12th January 2015 (or another day during this week).
  • 3 days – Monday – 12th January 2015 – Wednesday, 14th January 2015
  • 5 days – Monday – 12th January 2015 – Friday, 16th January 2015
  • 7 days – Monday – 12th January 2015 – Sunday, 18th January 2015

Below are just a few Fasting Basics adapted from the Jentezen Franklin website. If you’d like to check out the website yourself please go to http://www.jentezenfranklin.org/fasting/. Biblical Fasting simply stated, is refraining from food for a spiritual purpose.

According to the Bible, there are three duties of every Christian (see below).

  1. Giving Matthew 6:2 “So WHEN you GIVE to the needy”.
  2. Praying Matthew 6:5 “And WHEN you PRAY
  3. Fasting – Matthew 6:16 “WHEN you FAST
  • Read Matthew 6:1-34 in context yourself.

Biblical fasting takes a lot of discipline and strength—strength which you can only receive from God. Your private discipline will bring you rewards in Heaven.

Three times in Matthew 6 it states, regarding giving, praying and fasting that, your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. We give, pray and fast individually but we must also give, pray and fast corporately as a Church. When you give God your first through fasting, prayer and giving at the beginning of the year, you set the course for the entire year.

Why should we fast?

To fulfill God’s purpose and plan for our lives and for the The Tab. To see God’s authority released in our lives and to bind the strategies of the enemy against us.

On this fast we want to pray for ourselves, our community and our Church. These are the things we want to specifically pray into for 2015.

  1. Pray for yourself – your family, home, work, finances, guidance, health & healing. To know God’s will for our lives. To have a stronger, deeper and more intimate relationship with God in 2015.
  2. Pray for our Community – For the various projects we run as a church.
  3. Pray for our Church – For the lost, our nation, the building process of our new Church – to speed up the process & make up the delays. For God to strengthen our leaders and members.

A Living Sacrifice – Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will ishis good, pleasing and perfect will Romans 12:1-2 (NIV)

But SEEK FIRST his kingdom and his righteousness, and ALL these things will be given to you as well – Matthew 6:33 (NIV)

Believe that, as we pray and seek God and give Him our best at the beginning of the year, He will bless our ENTIRE year!!!

Another great promise, from the book of Isaiah, proclaims that the chosen fast will “undo the heavy burdens and let the oppressed go free. Read Isaiah 58:6-12 about the kind of fast that God accepts.

Choose from the following Types of Fasts

  1. Full Fast – Drink only liquids (you establish the number of days). We would recommend NO MORE than 3 days. Esther 4:16
  2. The Daniel Fast – Eat no meat, no sweets and no bread. Drink water and juice. Eat fruits and vegetables. Daniel 1:8-20, Daniel 10;2-3
  3. Partial Fast – A partial fast is from 6:00 am to 3:00 pm or from sun up to sundown. You can select from three types of fasting —a Full Fast, Daniel Fast or give up at least one item of food.

*If you have any medical issues or are taking any medication, please consult your doctor before joining the fast.

So let God work his will in you. Yell a loud NO to the Devil and watch him scamper. Say a quiet YES to God and he’ll be there in no time. Quit dabbling in sin. Purify your inner life. Quit playing the field. Hit bottom, and cry your eyes out. The fun and games are over. Get serious, really serious. Get down on your knees before the Master; it’s the only way you’ll get on your feet – James 4:7-10 – The Message (MSG)

Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] DO SUPERABUNDANTLY, FAR OVER AND ABOVE all that we [dare] ASK or THINK [INFINITELY BEYOND our HIGHEST PRAYERS, DESIRES, THOUGHTS, HOPES, or DREAMS]— Ephesians 3:20 Amplified Bible (AMP).
