This year we relaunched cook school as a pilot with a new purpose to get young people to cook for the elderly. Cook school is run in partnership with a local secondary school called Raines.
The aim is to teach young people cooking skills whilst preparing a hot meal for the eldery. This not only devlops pracitcal cooking skills but also teaches about taking responsibility and caring for others. This not only benefits the elderly but creates an opportunity for the young people to feel a sense of reward and purpose. Many of the young people that attend this programme are carefully selected by the school and generally have issues engaging with general school life and so this programme provides an atmosphere where they can learn and build confidence.
